Admissions: Overview

The Grove School of Engineering at The City College of New York is the only public school of engineering in New York City. It offers degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in a broad range of fields – including Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science; Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering – while also affording students the opportunity to learn from and work alongside world-class mentors in advanced research laboratories.

Undergraduate Admissions

Freshman Admission (details)
Prospective freshman must complete The City College of New York application process for admission into Grove.

• An overall high school average of 85% or better;
• Two years of English;
• Four years of high school mathematics, including pre-calculus, with an average of 80% or better; and,
• Three years of science, including:
  • One year of physics, with a grade of 80% or better, and
  • One year of chemistry with a grade of 80% or better.
    (The physics and chemistry requirements may each be substituted by a year-long college-level non-calculus-based course.)

  Transfer & Second-Degree Admission (details)
  Prospective transfer and second-degree applicants must complete The City College of New York application process.

  • Satisfaction of the Grove School freshman admission criteria;
  • A minimum overall GPA of 2.7 in college courses;
  • A minimum 2.5 GPA in college math and science courses, with no grade below a "C";
  • Completed two semesters of calculus with a grade of "C" or better;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in math and science, evidenced by student transcript; and,
  • Completed 24 or more college-level credits.

  Graduate Admissions

  Master's Degree Admission (details)
  Prospective master's degree candidates must complete The City College of New York application process.

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, earning a "B" grade average in the major field;
  • Letter(s) of recommendation, preferably from a faculty member familiar with the applicant's work; and,
  • Additional requirements as specified by the individual graduate program.

  Ph.D. Admission (details)
